Karachi: The Board of Directors of Bawany Air Products Limited has announced the commencement of sugar milling operations by Alman Sayyam Sugar Mills (Private) Limited, a subsidiary within the Bawany Group. The operations are set to begin on November 27, 2026, at the D.I. Khan Sugar Project located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This event marks a pivotal development in the Bawany Group's strategic diversification and investment endeavors. The transition of the D.I. Khan Sugar Project from its development stage to operational status highlights a significant milestone for the company. The project is established as an integrated sugar manufacturing facility, initially equipped with a cane crushing capacity of 10,000 TCD. The facility's mill drive system is designed to handle up to 15,000 TCD, indicating potential for future capacity expansion.
Integral to the facility is an 18 MW power generation turbine, along with a total steam generation capacity of approximately 190 TPH, facilitated by two high-pressure boilers. The project has made significant strides in its operational areas, including the installation of four mills, testing and trialing of cane-handling systems, and hydro-testing of both boilers. The completion of the RO water treatment plant and advancements in the process house, power house, sugar recovery, and packing facilities further underscore its progress.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the project's comprehensive design supports a wide array of sugar manufacturing processes. These include cane handling, juice processing, evaporation, crystallization, sugar recovery, drying, grading, and packing operations. The commencement of milling operations brings the project closer to its goal of becoming a modern, integrated, and scalable sugar manufacturing platform.
The Bawany Group's initiative is expected to play a significant role in the regional market, contributing to the agricultural and industrial sectors. The project's potential expansion capabilities highlight its importance in the group's long-term strategic plans, positioning it as a key player in the sugar industry.
