Hub Power Company Reports Strong Financial Growth Amid Revenue Challenges

Karachi: The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO) has released its financial results for the fiscal year 2026 and the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, showcasing substantial growth in profit and earnings per share, despite challenges in revenue generation.

In the fiscal year 2026, HUBCO reported a net profit of PKR 24,467 million on an unconsolidated basis, marking a 28% increase from the previous year. The earnings per share also saw a 28% rise, reaching PKR 18.86. These gains were primarily driven by higher dividend income from subsidiaries and associates, coupled with reduced finance costs due to debt repayments and lower interest rates. However, revenue was significantly impacted by the termination of a power purchase agreement (PPA).

On a consolidated level, the company reported revenue of PKR 71,126 million, reflecting a 15% decline from fiscal year 2025. Gross profit decreased by 25%, landing at PKR 29,688 million. Despite these revenue challenges, consolidated net profit attributable to the holding company increased by 8% to PKR 49,631 million, with earnings per share up by 8% to PKR 38.26. The rise in net profit was attributed to a higher share of profits from associates and the benefits of reduced finance costs.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), HUBCO's financial performance in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 continued to exhibit strong growth. The unconsolidated net profit for the quarter was PKR 8,118 million, a 3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, with earnings per share also up by 3% to PKR 6.26. This growth was supported by increased dividend income from subsidiaries and higher returns on short-term money market investments.

Consolidated results for Q1 FY-2027 showed a revenue of PKR 22,109 million, a 27% increase from the previous year, and a gross profit of PKR 8,002 million, marking a minor move of 5%. The net profit attributable to the holding company rose by 10% to PKR 12,786 million, with earnings per share also increasing by 10% to PKR 9.86. These gains were fueled by a higher share of profits from associates and joint ventures, alongside increased income from short-term investments and reduced finance costs.

HUBCO's financial results underscore the company's resilience and strategic focus on profit generation through diversified income streams and effective financial management, despite facing notable revenue challenges.
