Islamic Finances and Investments Witness Significant Growth in Pakistan

Karachi: Recent financial disclosures have revealed substantial growth in Islamic mode financing and Shariah-compliant investments in Pakistan, reflecting a shift towards Islamic financial practices. The disclosures were made in accordance with Clause VII of Part I of Schedule IV of the Companies Act, 2017, dated September 15, 2026.

A notable observation from the unconsolidated financial position is the moderate move in financing obtained under the Islamic mode, which decreased to 808.58 million rupees from 868.95 million rupees in the previous year. In contrast, Shariah-compliant investments on the asset side showed a very large increase, rising from 89.67 billion rupees to an impressive 120.65 billion rupees.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the revenue earned from Shariah-compliant business segments also marked a significant rise, from 242.52 billion rupees in 2025 to 264.01 billion rupees in 2026. Profit from Shariah-compliant bank deposits surged from 74.62 million rupees to 284.38 million rupees, indicating a very large move.

Consolidated financial statements further corroborate these trends, with Shariah-compliant investments increasing from 82.66 billion rupees to 113.64 billion rupees. Revenue from Shariah-compliant segments grew to 266.31 billion rupees, up from 244.98 billion rupees in the previous fiscal year, marking a big move.

The financial disclosures also detailed non-Shariah compliant income, including significant earnings from investments in treasury bills and foreign currency term deposits, along with notable gains from the disposal of assets. However, these conventional income sources showed varied performance, with a decline in some areas compared to the previous year.

This data highlights the growing emphasis on Islamic financial instruments in Pakistan, aligning with global trends towards ethical and Shariah-compliant financial practices. The marked increase in Shariah-compliant investments and revenues underscores the evolving landscape of Pakistan's financial market.
