MCB Pakistan Sovereign Fund Reports Significant Decline in Annual Income

Karachi: MCB Investment Management Limited, the management company of MCB Pakistan Sovereign Fund, has disclosed a marked decrease in the financial results for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026. The Board of Directors approved the results during a meeting at the company's Head Office in Karachi on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

The income statement for the year showed total income at 2.45 billion rupees, a very large or significant move down from 5.10 billion rupees in the previous year. Income from government securities contributed 2.57 billion rupees, down from 3.71 billion rupees. Profit from savings accounts with banks increased to 231.20 million rupees from 201.05 million rupees.

The fund experienced a net realised loss on the sale of investments amounting to 264.86 million rupees, contrasting with a net realised gain of 1.08 billion rupees the previous year. Net unrealised appreciation on re-measurement of investments classified as 'financial assets at fair value through profit or loss' shifted to a loss of 94.91 million rupees from a gain of 106.82 million rupees. Other income rose slightly to 1.99 million rupees from 1.43 million rupees.

Total expenses for the fund amounted to 393.53 million rupees, reflecting a moderate move down from 588.89 million rupees the previous fiscal year. The management company's remuneration decreased to 305.19 million rupees from 455.91 million rupees. Additional expense reductions were noted in Sindh sales tax on remuneration and allocated expenses.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the net income for the year before taxation stood at 2.05 billion rupees, down from 4.51 billion rupees. With no taxation applied, the net income for the year after taxation remained the same.

The allocation of net income for the year after taxation was 2.05 billion rupees, compared to 4.51 billion rupees in the prior year. Income already paid on units redeemed was 1.90 billion rupees, down from 4.16 billion rupees. The resultant accounting income available for distribution, excluding capital gains, was 150.85 million rupees, down from 242.60 million rupees. The total accounting income available for distribution, including capital gains, was 150.85 million rupees, compared to 355.79 million rupees the previous year.

These financial results reflect the fund's performance in the designated market category over the period, highlighting challenges faced in investment gains and income from government securities.
