Misplaced Share Certificates Reported by Major Pakistani Companies

Karachi: Several leading companies in Pakistan have reported misplaced or lost share certificates, potentially impacting numerous shareholders. The certificates, which were either accompanied by verified or unverified transfer deeds, were reported lost by CDC Share Registrar Services Limited. This notification comes as a significant alert within the financial sector, signaling a need for enhanced security measures and regulatory oversight.

The affected entities include some of Pakistan's most prominent corporations such as Faysal Bank Limited, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Pakistan State Oil Company Limited, Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, Habib Bank Limited, and GlaxoSmithKline Pakistan Limited. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the lost share certificates span across these companies with various quantities and certificate numbers detailed.

The notification specifies that if no objection is received within seven days concerning the lost certificates, duplicate certificates will be issued to the shareholders concerned. This protocol ensures that shareholder rights are preserved while the companies attempt to resolve the discrepancies.

The incident underscores the vulnerabilities in managing physical share certificates and the imperative for transitioning towards more secure digital solutions. As the market absorbs this information, the integrity of share management and the responsiveness of corporate governance structures are put to the test, aiming to mitigate any potential financial disruption.
