Karachi: The National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) has announced approved amendments to its 2015 regulations, focusing on the processing of corporate actions and the release of pledged securities. These changes, reported on September 10, 2026, aim to streamline corporate actions related to Margin Trading (MT) and Margin Financing (MF) in the capital markets.
The amendments specify that any entitlements arising from corporate actions involving MT Financed Securities and Margin Financed Securities should be accrued to the beneficial owner rather than the Trading Financier or Margin Financier. Under the current Central Depository System (CDS) mechanism, account holders are treated as the beneficial owners, and entitlements such as cash dividends, stock dividends, rights, and acquisitions are calculated and transferred to them before the book closure date.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the NCCPL's settlement mechanism delivers MT Financed and Margin Financed Securities to the CDS accounts of Trading Financiers and Margin Financiers. These securities remain in a blocked status until settlement. The ultimate beneficial owners, who have executed these transactions, will benefit from an automated transfer mechanism for corporate entitlements.
The amendments also outline a process for releasing pledged securities. Clearing Members (CMs) must initiate a release request through a company-provided interface. Once the request is received, the company will release the pledged securities into the CM's account, ensuring compliance with margin and Mark-to-Market (MTM) loss requirements.
These regulatory updates by NCCPL are intended to enhance transparency and efficiency in the processing of corporate actions within the Pakistani stock market, classified under the designated market category of capital markets.
