Karachi: Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) announced the successful completion and commissioning of the Jhal Magsi Development Project in District Jhal Magsi, Balochistan, on August 18, 2025. This significant development marks a milestone in the region's energy sector, designated under the market category of oil and gas.
The Jhal Magsi Development Project is contributing approximately 14 million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline-quality gas, accompanied by 45 barrels per day of condensate. The gas is being integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network, facilitated by a 98-kilometer gas transportation pipeline constructed by SSGCL from the Jhal Magsi Field to its designated tie-in point.
The development activities for the project commenced in February 2024 after the Government of Pakistan approved incentives, which included transitioning the project from the 1997 Petroleum Policy to the Marginal Field Gas Pricing Policy. This transition has played a crucial role in advancing the project's completion.
The Jhal Magsi Field comprises two wells and operates as a joint venture, spearheaded by Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), which holds a 56% working interest. Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) maintains a 24% stake, while Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) holds a 20% working interest in the project.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the project is a notable achievement in the country's energy infrastructure. The successful commissioning of this project is expected to impact the supply capabilities of the region significantly.
This development underscores the collaborative efforts and strategic planning between the involved stakeholders, aiming to enhance the energy production capabilities of Pakistan. The Jhal Magsi Development Project is anticipated to play a vital role in meeting the energy demands of the region and contributing to the overall energy security of the nation.
