Rental Payment Triggers Suspension of Trading in GoP Ijarah Sukuk on PSX

Karachi: All market participants have been informed of the upcoming suspension in trading activities for the Government of Pakistan (GoP) Ijarah Sukuk at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The suspension is due to the rental payment obligations for the Fixed Rental Rate (FRR) and Variable Rental Rate (VRR) Sukuk, originally issued on June 28, 2024. These payments are scheduled for June 28, 2026.

The designated market category for this development is the PSX, which has announced a detailed schedule of suspension for relevant trading activities. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the trading, clearing, and settlement activities will be paused as per the following schedule:

For the 3-year Fixed and Variable Rental Rate Sukuk, with a maturity date of June 28, 2027, trading activities at the PSX will be suspended from June 22, 2026, to June 24, 2026. Concurrently, the Central Depository Company (CDC) will observe a shut period from June 23, 2026, to June 24, 2026.

Similarly, for the 5-year Fixed and Variable Rental Rate Sukuk, maturing on June 28, 2029, the suspension at PSX will occur during the same dates, June 22, 2026, to June 24, 2026, with the CDC shut period also spanning from June 23, 2026, to June 24, 2026.

This suspension is a procedural action to facilitate the rental payment process to all eligible investors, ensuring a smooth transition and settlement during the designated periods.
