Multan: Allawasaya Textile and Finishing Mills Limited has reported a significant increase in revenue, reaching Rs. 6.118 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, up from Rs. 3.775 billion the previous year. This growth comes despite facing substantial operational challenges, including high production costs and increased financial burdens.
The company's increased revenue figures are primarily due to heightened sales activities, even as the gross margins faced pressure from rising raw material costs and higher energy tariffs. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Allawasaya's financial results reflect the broader stresses in Pakistan's textile sector, which has seen multiple businesses struggle under similar constraints.
The revenue growth represents a 62% increase year-over-year, demonstrating resilience in a challenging economic landscape marked by political instability and global inflation impacts. However, the cost of goods sold also surged to Rs. 5.839 billion, leaving a gross profit of Rs. 279.73 million, compared to Rs. 144.57 million the previous year.
Despite these gains, the company incurred a net loss of Rs. 245.02 million, which worsened from the Rs. 164.77 million loss reported in 2023. The losses were exacerbated by a stark increase in finance costs, which totaled Rs. 272.25 million, up from Rs. 248.85 million, reflecting the high cost of borrowing amid escalating interest rates.
Operational output was notably robust, with total yarn production at 16.18 million kgs on a 20’s count basis, up from 11.37 million kgs in the previous year. This operational scale-up was crucial in mitigating some of the negative impacts of cost escalations.
Allawasaya's management has been focused on navigating these financial and operational challenges through strategic planning and resource allocation. The broader economic factors affecting the sector include high energy costs and a slowdown in global demand, which continues to pressurize local manufacturers.
The company has foregone dividends for the year, reflecting the ongoing financial prudence necessary to stabilize its operations amid persistent economic pressure. Moving forward, the company is likely to continue seeking ways to optimize operations and reduce costs, particularly through energy management and raw material sourcing strategies.
The market response to Allawasaya's performance and strategic initiatives will be closely monitored by investors and industry analysts, particularly as the company aims to overcome the sector-wide challenges and leverage potential growth opportunities in the future.
