Sarkand Sugar Mills Reports Decline in Crushing Volume and Profits Amid Operational Challenges

Karachi: Sarkand Sugar Mills Limited has released its un-audited Condensed Interim Financial statements for the period ending December 31, 2025, highlighting significant reductions in both operational and financial metrics compared to the previous year. The report, presented by the Board of Directors on February 2, 2026, underscores a challenging season for the sugar mill.

During the 2025-26 season, Sarkand Sugar Mills experienced a substantial decrease in sugarcane crushing, processing only 62,503 metric tons compared to 132,463 metric tons in the prior season. The number of operational days also dropped to 22 from 41. Despite the reduced crushing days and daily throughput, the company reported a slight improvement in sugar recovery, which increased to 9.551% from 9.372% last year.

Financially, the company faced a downturn, with net sales falling to Rs. 323.00 million from the previous year’s Rs. 1,392.46 million. Gross profit dropped significantly to Rs. 13.87 million, down from Rs. 157.30 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024. Profit after taxation was also affected, plummeting to Rs. 2.72 million, compared to Rs. 82.98 million the previous year, resulting in earnings per share of Rs. 0.06, down from Rs. 1.86.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company’s financial performance was impacted by challenging market conditions, including a late start to the sugar season, declining sugar prices, and increased cane procurement costs. Despite these challenges, the company managed to achieve a net profit through strategic procurement and cost management efforts.

Overall, the operational and financial results reflect a season marked by significant hurdles, with Sarkand Sugar Mills striving to adapt to the evolving market dynamics. The company’s management expressed confidence in improving results by the end of the crushing season, attributing this optimism to their proactive operational strategies and robust stakeholder support.
