Karachi: Shahtaj Sugar Mills Limited has released its financial results for the nine months ending June 30, 2026, reporting a loss amid challenging market conditions. The Board of Directors convened on July 29, 2026, and announced no cash dividend for this period.
Shahtaj Sugar Mills recorded total assets amounting to 13.65 billion rupees as of June 30, 2026, an increase from 8.39 billion rupees as of September 30, 2025. This rise reflects substantial growth in current assets, including stock-in-trade, which swelled from 926.22 million rupees to 5.75 billion rupees. Trade debts also saw a notable increase from 35.37 million rupees to 167.58 million rupees.
The company's revenue from contracts with customers for the nine-month period dropped to 6.62 billion rupees from 7.08 billion rupees during the same period last year. This decline in revenue represents a significant move of -6.54%.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the cost of revenue decreased to 5.56 billion rupees from 6.34 billion rupees, resulting in a gross profit of 1.05 billion rupees, up from 742.14 million rupees. Despite this improvement, the company reported a loss before income taxation of 91.57 million rupees, compared to a profit of 9.55 million rupees in the previous year.
The financial results also highlighted an increase in finance costs, which escalated from 276.25 million rupees to 641.94 million rupees. This contributed significantly to the company's bottom line, with a loss of 93.48 million rupees for the period, a stark contrast to the profit of 9.55 million rupees recorded in the comparable period of the previous year.
The statement of financial position indicates that Shahtaj Sugar Mills' total equity and liabilities reached 13.65 billion rupees as of June 30, 2026. Current liabilities, including trade and other payables, contract liabilities, and short-term borrowings, surged to 7.67 billion rupees from 2.24 billion rupees.
The company's financial trajectory during this period underscores the volatile market environment it navigated, marked by heightened operational costs and diminished revenue streams. The absence of a recommended cash dividend further underscores the cautious stance adopted by the Board of Directors in response to these financial challenges.
