The Bank of Khyber Inducted for Proprietary Trading in GoP Sukuk

Karachi: The Bank of Khyber has been inducted as a trading participant for proprietary trading in Government of Pakistan (GoP) Sukuk, according to a recent announcement by the Pakistan Stock Exchange. This induction follows the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan's (SECP) approval under the provision to Regulation 6.1(q) of the PSX Rulebook, allowing Commercial Banks and Mutual Funds that are Debt Market Clearing Members (DMCMs) of the National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) to engage in such trading activities.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the inclusion of The Bank of Khyber comes after the completion of all necessary documentary, operational, and technical requirements. This step is part of a broader initiative to enhance the participation of financial institutions in the debt market, particularly in the trading of GoP Sukuk. The decision is pursuant to applications received from various Commercial Banks and Mutual Funds.

Under this mechanism, The Bank of Khyber will have the capability to trade GoP Sukuk issued through primary market auctions at PSX. It is important to note that this participation is strictly limited to proprietary trading of GoP Sukuk, and does not extend to other fixed income securities within the Bills and Bonds (BnB) market, including Corporate and Government Debt Securities.

This development, reported on October 27, 2026, marks a significant move in the designated market of proprietary trading, as it expands the scope and depth of market activities available to approved financial entities within Pakistan's financial landscape.
