The Bank of Khyber Reports Decline in Quarterly Profits Amid Decreased Income

Peshawar: The Bank of Khyber has reported a significant decline in its profits for the quarter ending September 30, 2026, reflecting a challenging financial environment marked by decreased income and increased expenses. The bank's financial results, disclosed in an unconsolidated condensed interim statement of profit and loss, reveal a notable contraction compared to the same period last year.

For the quarter running from July 1 to September 30, 2026, the bank's profit after taxation stood at 918.60 million rupees, down from 1.61 billion rupees in the corresponding quarter of 2025. This represents a very large or significant move in profit reduction, signaling a substantial deviation from the previous year's performance.

The bank's total income for the quarter was reported at 4.96 billion rupees, a decrease from 5.91 billion rupees in the same period last year. This reduction in income is attributed to a decline in both mark-up and non-mark-up income streams. Notably, the mark-up or interest income fell to 14.91 billion rupees from 13.60 billion rupees, while non-mark-up or interest income dropped significantly to 546.09 million rupees from 1.23 billion rupees in the previous year.

Operating expenses for the bank saw an increase, reaching 3.21 billion rupees compared to 2.84 billion rupees in the previous year. This rise in expenses further contributed to the decline in profitability for the quarter.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the bank's earnings per share also reflected the downtrend, with the basic and diluted earnings per share recorded at 0.79 rupees, down from 1.39 rupees in the same quarter of the preceding year.

For the nine-month period ending September 30, 2026, the bank's profit after taxation was 2.38 billion rupees, compared to 4.97 billion rupees during the same period in 2025. This decrease underscores the persistent financial challenges faced by the bank over the course of the year.

The Bank of Khyber's financial results highlight a period of significant financial adjustment, as the institution navigates through reduced income and heightened expenses, impacting its overall profitability for the quarter and year-to-date.
