TPL Life Insurance Reports Increased Premium Revenue Amid Higher Expenses

Karachi: TPL Life Insurance Ltd. has disclosed its financial results for the nine-month period ending September 30, 2026, indicating a substantial rise in gross premium revenue but also reflecting significant losses due to increased expenses. Net premium revenue, after accounting for premiums ceded to reinsurers, stood at 432.20 million rupees, compared to 321.20 million rupees in the previous year. This reflects the company's ability to retain more premium income despite increased cessions to reinsurers, which rose slightly from 78.17 million rupees to 81.29 million rupees.

Investment income showed a minor move, recording 33.53 million rupees compared to the prior year's 33.23 million rupees. Meanwhile, other income saw a very large or significant move, climbing from 10.38 million rupees to 34.26 million rupees.

However, the benefits paid out in the form of insurance claims decreased, as insurance benefits fell to 55.16 million rupees from 112.07 million rupees, and reinsurance recoveries dropped from 36.48 million rupees to 8.34 million rupees, resulting in net insurance benefits of 46.82 million rupees.

The company's expenditure also saw a notable increase. Marketing and administration expenses rose from 218.11 million rupees to 255.30 million rupees, and acquisition expenses grew to 187.54 million rupees from 128.92 million rupees. Total expenses for the period were 600.77 million rupees, up from 434.38 million rupees, contributing to a loss before tax of 158.99 million rupees, compared to a loss of 150.71 million rupees in the previous year.

After accounting for an income tax expense of 7.14 million rupees, TPL Life reported a loss for the period of 166.13 million rupees, slightly higher than the 159.12 million rupees loss recorded last year. The financial report indicates that the company continues to face challenges in controlling its expense base while managing its revenue growth, a situation reflected in the unchanged basic and diluted loss per share of 0.74 rupees.

The insurance provider, operating within the financial services sector, underscores the complexities of balancing premium income growth with rising operational costs and claims management.
