Consultation Session on Waqf Framework at PSX Cancelled

Karachi: The scheduled consultation session on "Proposing a Regulatory Framework for Reinvigorating the Institution of Waqf in Pakistan," initially set for May 13, 2025, at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) Auditorium in Karachi, has been cancelled. The announcement was made in reference to an earlier notice, PSX/N-463, dated May 6, 2025.

The session aimed to gather insights and recommendations on establishing a robust regulatory framework to enhance the institution of Waqf in Pakistan. The initiative was anticipated to engage various stakeholders, including financial experts, religious scholars, and policymakers, in a dialogue to strengthen and modernize the Waqf system.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the meeting's cancellation stems from unforeseen circumstances. No specific reasons have been provided, and stakeholders are advised to await further announcements regarding a rescheduled date for the consultation.

The Waqf system, which involves endowments typically for religious or charitable purposes, is a significant aspect of Pakistan's socio-economic landscape. The proposed regulatory framework was intended to modernize the administration of Waqf assets, thereby improving transparency and efficiency.

The PSX, which operates within the designated market category of the country's primary stock exchange, serves as a platform for economic dialogue and policy advancement. The new date for the consultation session will be announced once circumstances permit.
