JS Bank Limited Reports Strong Financial Performance for Q3 2026 Amid Economic Challenges

Karachi: JS Bank Limited has released its financial report for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, showcasing robust financial performance amid challenging macroeconomic conditions. The bank posted a profit before tax (PBT) of PKR 8,932 million and a profit after tax (PAT) of PKR 4,300 million for the nine months ending September 30, 2026. This reflects a significant improvement of 57.68% and 67.39% respectively, compared to the same period last year, as reported on October 29, 2026.

Pakistan's macroeconomic environment remained broadly stable in the third quarter of 2026, bolstered by a manageable external account and record foreign exchange reserves. However, the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East presented a primary macroeconomic challenge, impacting domestic prices, supply chains, and market sentiment. The disruption in Gulf oil routes and global refining constraints pushed Brent crude oil prices above US$ 100 per barrel in September 2026, escalating domestic inflation pressures.

Despite these challenges, the State Bank of Pakistan maintained the policy rate at 11.5%, citing a stable medium-term inflation outlook. Nevertheless, the external account experienced renewed pressures with a current account deficit of US$ 356 million in September 2026. The cumulative deficit for Q1 FY27 reached US$ 874 million, marking a 16% year-on-year increase, primarily driven by an energy-led surge in imports.

In the banking sector, JS Bank reported a 7.83% year-over-year increase in net interest income, reaching PKR 22,154 million. The bank's non-remunerative deposits grew by 29%, contributing to a 10.05% increase in total deposits, which stood at PKR 598.123 billion by the end of September 2026. However, non-markup income declined by 23.48% year-on-year to PKR 8,197 million due to normalized capital gains.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), JS Bank's basic/diluted earnings per share improved to PKR 2.10 from PKR 1.25 in the previous year. The bank's cost-to-income ratio increased to 75.69% from 70.56% due to the previous period's outsized capital gains. However, the net interest income to operating cost ratio improved to 96.44%.

The bank's credit loss allowance saw a net reversal of PKR 1,733 million due to the settlement of a significant overdue exposure, resulting in the acquisition of additional equity shares of TRG Pakistan Limited. The bank's capital adequacy ratio stood at 13.30% as of September 30, 2026.

On a consolidated basis, JS Bank and its subsidiaries recorded a PBT of PKR 13,829 million and a PAT of PKR 5,716 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, with earnings per share at PKR 2.38.

The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency Limited (PACRA) assigned JS Bank a long-term entity rating of "AA" and a short-term rating of "A1+", indicating high credit quality and low expectation of credit risk. The bank's consolidated capital adequacy ratio was 14.01% as of September 30, 2026.

JS Bank remains committed to empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and individual consumers through tailored financing solutions, while maintaining strong collateral coverage and credit quality.
