Karachi: Tata Textile Mills Ltd. has released its financial results for the first quarter ending September 30, 2026, revealing a 54.7% decline in profit after taxation compared to the same period last year. The company reported a profit of Rs. 702 million, down from Rs. 1,550 million, as detailed in the Directors' Review announced on October 30, 2026.
The global economic landscape remains challenging, with growth projected at 3.1% in 2026. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has caused fluctuations in oil prices, affecting shipping routes and increasing freight and insurance costs. Domestically, Pakistan's economy has shown gradual recovery with a real GDP growth of 3.7% for FY 2026, though it remains sensitive to oil prices and external financing.
Within the textile sector, domestic cotton arrivals were slightly better than last year, reaching 3.21 million bales by the end of September. However, pest pressures and contamination concerns have kept the season's output estimates at around 5.7 million bales. Imported cotton remains subject to exchange-rate fluctuations, impacting the cost structures of textile companies.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Tata Textile Mills Ltd. experienced a minor sales increase of 4.1%, totaling Rs. 12,370 million for the quarter. Despite the revenue growth, the company faced a significant rise in other expenses, including an unrealized loss on investment of Rs. 590 million due to adverse capital market conditions. The gross profit increased to Rs. 1,965 million, representing a significant rise from Rs. 795 million in the previous year, driven by a 6.1% reduction in the cost of sales.
Distribution and administrative expenses rose to Rs. 310 million, while finance costs saw a reduction of 21.5% to Rs. 560 million, attributed to improved working capital management. Conversely, other income decreased dramatically, down by 92.6% to Rs. 199 million, leading to a lower overall profit before levies and taxation of Rs. 661 million.
The company has maintained a focus on sustainability and corporate social responsibility, undertaking initiatives such as tree planting, community health camps, and AI literacy sessions. These activities underscore Tata Textile Mills Ltd.'s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
Despite the challenging market conditions and external pressures, Tata Textile Mills Ltd. continues to focus on strategic management and operational efficiency to navigate the volatile landscape.
