Lahore: In its first quarterly report for the fiscal year 2026-27, Tariq Glass Industries Limited announced a robust financial performance despite facing a challenging economic environment. The report, which was released on October 30, 2026, highlights the company's strong sales growth and improved profitability.
During the quarter ending September 30, 2026, the company's net sales reached Rs. 7,985 million, marking a 6.50% increase over the same period last year. This surge was largely driven by an 8.89% growth in local sales, amounting to Rs. 7,871 million. However, export sales decreased to Rs. 114 million from Rs. 269 million, as the company prioritized domestic market demand amidst competitive export conditions.
The gross profit margin saw a significant improvement, rising to 34.49% from 23.94% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Gross profit increased by 44.07% to Rs. 2,754 million, attributed to production efficiency, effective cost control, and a better product mix. These factors contributed to a reduction in costs despite higher sales volumes, leading to a 48.91% increase in operating profit, which reached Rs. 2,402 million.
The company's financial health was further strengthened by a decline in finance costs to Rs. 24 million, reflecting minimal reliance on external borrowings. Higher other income also bolstered the results. Consequently, profit before tax rose by 59.26% to Rs. 2,296 million, while profit after tax increased by 58.48% to Rs. 1,494 million, translating into earnings per share of Rs. 8.68 compared to Rs. 5.14 in the previous year.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Tariq Glass Industries operates in the designated market category of manufacturing. The company, an energy-intensive glass manufacturer, continues to navigate challenges such as volatility in energy prices, excess capacity, and intense competition.
During the period under review, one Tableware and one Float Glass plant operated smoothly. However, another Tableware unit remained closed after completing its campaign life, and the commissioning of the rebuilt Float Glass Furnace (Unit-1) has been deferred due to prevailing market conditions.
The broader economic context in Pakistan during this period showed signs of recovery, with large-scale manufacturing maintaining growth and the external position strengthening, aided by robust workers' remittances. Nonetheless, inflation reached 11.1% in August 2026, and geopolitical tensions, along with global financial conditions, posed ongoing risks. The State Bank of Pakistan kept the policy rate steady at 11.5% in response to these pressures.
