Lahore: The Board of Directors at Baba Farid Sugar Mills Limited has released its unaudited financial statements for the half-year period ending March 31, 2025. The report highlights a notable improvement in financial performance amid a challenging economic landscape characterized by persistent inflation and political uncertainty.
The onset of the sugarcane crushing season, which ran from November 20, 2024, to March 09, 2025, saw the company crushing 569,620.090 metric tons of sugarcane. This resulted in the production of 54,991.500 metric tons of white refined sugar at an average recovery rate of 9.653%. These figures represent an increase from the previous year, where the company crushed 524,174.100 metric tons and produced 52,798.400 metric tons of sugar at an average recovery rate of 10.068%.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Baba Farid Sugar Mills reported net sales of Rs. 4,173.556 million for the period under review. This marks a significant increase from the Rs. 1,681.209 million recorded during the same period last year. The company also achieved a pretax profit of Rs. 108.069 million, a turnaround from a pretax loss of Rs. 169.008 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. Factors contributing to this positive outcome include stable sugarcane prices, improved sugar sales rates, reduced interest costs, and timely sugar exports.
Despite the unpredictable economic environment and the complexities brought about by export restrictions and pricing controls, the company has managed to sustain production levels through operational improvements. These efforts have ensured better sugar recoveries and extraction rates, contributing to the overall financial performance.
Looking forward, Baba Farid Sugar Mills remains cautiously optimistic about the remainder of the financial year. The management emphasizes the need for financial discipline, operational efficiency, and strategic diversification to navigate market uncertainties. The company continues to focus on mitigating risks related to cost escalation, tax burdens, and market volatility while maintaining a close watch on internal financial controls.
The company's leadership acknowledges the dedication and commitment of its employees and extends appreciation to suppliers, customers, and bankers for their ongoing support and confidence.
