International Steels Limited Reports Significant Profit Increase Amidst Geopolitical Uncertainty

Karachi: International Steels Limited has announced its unaudited financial results for the first quarter ending September 30, 2026, highlighting a notable increase in profit amidst challenging global circumstances.

The quarter was characterized by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which led to disruptions in energy supplies and shipping routes, creating volatility in international energy prices and freight costs. Despite these challenges, the company successfully navigated the competitive domestic market environment by enhancing operational efficiency and managing its working capital effectively.

Sales volumes for the quarter saw a 7% increase compared to the same period last year, driven by a rise in domestic demand. The company's market share grew to 27%, up from 20% in the previous year, maintaining the level from the preceding quarter. This growth reflects the company's ongoing efforts to expand its market presence in a competitive landscape.

Net sales for the quarter amounted to approximately PKR 24 billion. The company's gross profit margin improved to 14.34%, up from 11.25% in the same period last year, indicating stronger core margins. Profit after tax rose significantly to PKR 2,207 million from PKR 620 million, resulting in earnings per share of PKR 5.07. The profit figures include a one-off pre-tax gain of approximately PKR 2,008 million due to the remeasurement of the Sindh Infrastructure Development Cess (SIDC) liability. This increase in underlying profitability is attributed to stronger domestic sales and improved gross margins.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the financial performance of International Steels Limited reflects a big move with a 7% increase in sales volumes and a substantial rise in market share. The company's operational priorities during this period included maintaining a focus on production planning, energy efficiency, yield improvement, and cost control. Areas such as power sourcing, solar generation, and energy consumption were emphasized to manage conversion costs effectively.

The company also prioritized working-capital discipline and inventory optimization, along with maintaining health and safety standards, environmental responsibility, and reliable customer service. Furthermore, International Steels Limited continued its engagement with regulatory authorities and industry stakeholders to promote fair competition and address trade-related challenges affecting domestic steel manufacturers.
