Pakistan Cash Management Fund Reports a Decline in Net Assets Amid Economic Shifts

Karachi: The Pakistan Cash Management Fund, under the management of MCB Investment Management Limited, has reported its financial performance for the quarter ending September 30, 2026. The fund, which primarily focuses on cash management, experienced a decrease in its net assets, reflecting broader economic shifts in the country.

On October 30, 2026, the management company released its quarterly report, highlighting that the fund's net assets fell to Rs. 1,126 million by the end of September, down from Rs. 1,467 million at the close of June 2026. This represents a decrease of 23.24%. Despite the reduction in net assets, the fund's return was recorded at 11.27%, closely aligning with its benchmark return of 11.28%.

The report also detailed Pakistan's economic performance during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The country encountered a current account deficit of USD 543 million in the initial two months, an improvement from the USD 853 million deficit in the same period of the previous year. The trade deficit expanded by 18.8% year-on-year, with exports rising by 4.0% and imports by 11.4%.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the local currency appreciated by 0.4% against the US dollar, reaching 277.1 PKR/USD by the quarter's end. Remittances saw a significant increase of 14.7%, amounting to USD 7.3 billion, and foreign exchange reserves grew to approximately USD 21.4 billion, up from USD 18.4 billion at the last fiscal year's conclusion.

The country's headline inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, averaged 10.2% in the first quarter, a rise from 4.3% in the previous year. This was primarily due to increased global oil prices, which affected domestic fuel costs and broader sectors.

Pakistan's GDP growth for FY26 was reported at 3.7%, with the agricultural, industrial, and services sectors growing by 2.9%, 3.5%, and 4.1% respectively. On the fiscal front, the Federal Board of Revenue's tax collection increased by 6.7% year-on-year during the first quarter, reaching PKR 3,083 billion, surpassing the target by PKR 30 billion.

The Net Asset Value (NAV) per unit of the fund remained unchanged at Rs. 50.4678 as of September 30, 2026, compared to the end of the previous quarter. The fund's performance was largely attributed to its strategic exposure to cash holdings, aligning with its cash management objectives.
