The United Insurance Company of Pakistan Ltd. Reports Strong Third Quarter Results Amid Economic Challenges

Lahore: The United Insurance Company of Pakistan Ltd. (UIC) has released its third quarter report for 2026, highlighting robust financial performance despite prevailing economic challenges. The company's profit before tax witnessed a significant increase of 39.72%, rising from Rs. 1,014.529 million in the same period of 2025 to Rs. 1,417.510 million in 2026.

The report, dated October 30, 2026, outlines the financial outcomes for the nine months ending September 30, 2026. UIC's written gross premium and net premium income reached Rs. 6,061.609 million and Rs. 3,356.763 million, respectively. This marks an improvement from the previous year's figures of Rs. 5,618.88 million in written gross premium and Rs. 3,123.641 million in net premium income.

Underwriting results also showed positive growth, with the company reporting Rs. 1,194.699 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, compared to Rs. 1,180.948 million in the same period of 2025. Profit after tax increased to Rs. 1,099.966 million from Rs. 812.416 million in 2025, and earnings per share rose to Rs. 2.88 per share, up from Rs. 2.13 per share, indicating a modest improvement.

The report notes that the macroeconomic environment in Pakistan showed signs of recovery, with a GDP growth rate of 3.7% and stable foreign exchange reserves of $23.72 billion. However, inflation posed a challenge, reaching 11.1% in August 2026. The policy rate remained unchanged at 11.5%, maintaining high borrowing costs.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the insurance sector experienced gradual growth, particularly in life, health, and takaful segments. The sector benefited from the stable exchange rate, which helped manage reinsurance costs, and regulatory developments such as digitalization and IFRS 17 implementation strengthened reporting frameworks.

Despite these positive trends, the insurance industry continues to face challenges such as elevated inflation and rising claims costs. UIC's management expenses increased to Rs. 1,310.969 million, a rise from Rs. 1,095.405 million in the same period of 2025.

The company's Window Takaful Operations showed mixed performance, with written gross contributions decreasing to Rs. 1,191.970 million from Rs. 1,400.690 million in 2025. Investment income of the Participants Takaful fund stood at Rs. 18.320 million, while the Operator's fund saw a decline in investment income to Rs. 8.973 million from Rs. 36.365 million.

Overall, UIC's financial results for the third quarter of 2026 reflect resilience in a challenging economic landscape, with significant growth in profits and premiums, despite pressures from inflation and operating costs. The company continues to explore opportunities in digital insurance, health, and underserved markets to foster further growth.
