Karachi: Century Insurance Company Limited presented a mixed financial performance for the nine-month period ending September 30, 2026. The report was disclosed on October 30, 2026, reflecting an increase in gross written premiums but a decrease in profits.
The company's gross written premium, which includes takaful contributions, rose to 3.02 billion rupees, marking a 32% increase from the 2.29 billion rupees reported in the same period last year. This growth was accompanied by a 15% increase in net premiums, which climbed to 1.34 billion rupees from the previous year's 1.17 billion rupees. Underwriting profits also improved, reaching 258 million rupees, a 62% rise from 159 million rupees.
However, the company faced challenges in investment and other income, which dropped significantly by 254 million rupees to 215 million rupees due to ongoing volatility in the equity market. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), this was a noticeable shift impacting the overall financial results.
Profit from window takaful operations showed a positive trend, increasing by 22% to 67 million rupees. Despite these gains, the company's profit before tax decreased by 21% to 520 million rupees, and profit after tax fell by 23% to 322 million rupees. The earnings per share also declined by 23% to 5.81 rupees.
The window takaful operations reported a gross written contribution of 410 million rupees, up from 309 million rupees in the prior year. The operator's fund recorded a gross wakala fee income of 143 million rupees, with the operator's profit before tax reaching 67 million rupees.
Century Insurance's performance in the designated market category reflects a combination of both growth in premium income and challenges in profit retention, underscoring the complex dynamics faced by the company in the current economic environment.
