Karachi: Kohat Cement Company Limited, in collaboration with Hub Power Holdings Limited, Lucky Cement Limited, and Metro Ventures (Private) Limited, has announced the formation of a consortium aiming to acquire a substantial equity stake in the Gujranwala Electric Power Company Limited (GEPCO). The move marks a significant step in the privatization efforts by the Government of Pakistan.
According to the material information disclosed by Kohat Cement Company Limited on October 7, 2026, the consortium has submitted an Expression of Interest and a Statement of Qualification for the proposed acquisition of a 51% to 100% equity stake in GEPCO. This stake includes the management control, as part of the privatization process initiated by the government. The designated market category for this transaction is the electric power sector.
The Privatisation Commission has pre-qualified and shortlisted the consortium, alongside other interested parties, to proceed with financial, technical, and legal due diligence on GEPCO. The equity stake is expected to be offered through a competitive bidding process.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), neither Kohat Cement nor the consortium has entered into any binding agreement for acquiring equity in GEPCO. The companies involved emphasize that any formal commitment will depend on the satisfactory completion of due diligence, necessary corporate and regulatory approvals, and the commercial viability of the transaction.
Currently, the consortium's primary objective is to conduct a thorough due diligence exercise to assess the feasibility of this acquisition opportunity.
